The Brief

This 133-unit student accommodation building is located in Bristol city centre close to the harbour side and is Prime Student Living's first location in the south of England. The brownfield site required demolition of a two-storey building and extraction of all unusable materials. The subsequent construction of a Metsec steel frame structure, reduced the construction period by three months, meeting the client's time constraints. Environmental features include a roof installed PV array and a CHP plant. Facilities include studio apartments and cluster accommodation with 6-7 ensuite bedrooms sharing a kitchen, plus central common room, cinema room, laundry and cycle stores. The site was constrained with limited storage, local residential neighbours and buildings adjoining the site and requiring party wall agreements.

Contract Value: £6.4 million

Duration: 65 weeks

  • Logistically challenging site, solution based on constraints and requirements on site.
  • With the exception of hardcore and rubble, all waste is removed via wheelie bins either by a compaction vehicle or a tail lift vehicle, providing replacement bins.
  • Wait & loads, along with crane tested skips were also utilised by this project.
  • Advised and reported for BREEAM & CCS accreditation, with full post completion report.
